Valley Way is in great shape--well consolidated. Any downed trees were easy to get over/under. We used snowshows the entire way. Be careful--the broken out ascending trail takes you to the right of the hut. Watch for the hut if visibility is poor. We couldn't see signs. We had planned to go on to Adams from Madison Hut, but the visibility was really poor and the group decided not to continue. We spoke with 2 men who had camped in a snow cave they dug near Thunderstorm Junction. They used crampons to summit Adams (which was completely socked in) this morning and were headed up Madison in crampons when we saw them. They mentioned packed snow but no visible cairns between Adams and Madison Hut (they might not have been on Gulfside--they couldn't see a trail.) They planned to use their cave for another night. |
