Unbroken powdery snow of about 6 inches to start increasing on the way increasing to 2 feet at the Imp/North Carter trail junction. Above we generally sunk in up to 3 feet of powdery snow. From the sign to the ridge it took up 2 hours to break 1.2 miles of trail! It was a grind and physically exhausting for both of us. Snow depth was less on the ridge so we then hiked quicker. Once we reached Middle Carter we saw that it had been broken from the other side. From there it became even easier. We wore snowshoes the whole hike but switched to microspikes once we reached Nineteen Mile Brook Trail. Some difficult snow conditions today up to Middle Carter. A huge thank you to Jon for helping break trail for most of the day. Never would have made these summits in today's conditions without his help. No views today but great to be OUT! |
