hancock nothch trail, when we left, was smooth and nicely broken. cedar brook trail is pretty rough. 4 bare booters lost the trail and turned around partway up cedar brook trail. a skier preceded us to partway up hancock loop trail as well, sometimes on and sometimes off the trail. the ski track is narrower than a snowshoe track; we tried to widen it. we broke about 12 inches of snow the rest of the way with deeper drifts up high. we were glad to be joined on hancock loop by another hiker who happily helped break. hancock loop is not well broken, but it is tracked out and has had a few sets of snowshoes over it. it will take some more hikers on snowshoes to really pack it. the snow depth is accumulating, especially between the summits, which makes for a lot more trees to duck under and a lot more branches at face level. great hike! |
