Found out the hard way that this approach to the Tripyramids is disused in winter. 4-5 inches of new snow over the base at the start, slow going because it was so dense. After the cross country trail turned off, the trail became completely unbroken, with no sign of a previous trough, 12-18 inches of dense snow became the norm. I turned around about 0.2 miles before the northern Mt. Tripyramid Trail junction. Beautiful weather and temperatures, snow softening in the sun on the way down. |
