Trail is in good shape. There is one duck-under before the glades. This trail doesn't get any better than it does in the winter. |

Weatherman predicted rain and snow but as I sat on my couch this morning eating breakfast I could see the Franconia and Kinsman Ridge. I threw on my clothes and headed out. There was a dusting of snow down low but amounts slowly increased as I approached the glades. Through the glades there was about 4-6 inches of new or drifted snow. Once out of the glades snow depths were around 10-12 inches of wet, heavy snow. I wandered around the base of the summit cone trying to find the best way up. I wanted to avoid the ski trails. I ended up heading over to the ski trails and then cutting back into the woods at the tram building. I took the Kinsman Ridge trail to just below the observation tower and then cut up. I chose to take the Kinsman Ridge Trail down the summit cone so that there wouldn't be unnecessary traffic on the ski trails. I met up with my tracks at the base of the cone. There is a track to the summit that avoids the ski area. Stay straight at the base of the cone (where I made a right turn.)
Nice, quick morning out breaking trail. Spent some time on the overlook and observation tower taking pictures. I saw no one and that is what I like. |
