There were 2 big groups heading out as we arrived at the parking lot. 1 was heading over to Jefferson and the other was going up Ammo for Monroe and Washington. Ammo Ravine Trail was well packed (thank you!)and easy to follow. Route goes off the trail towards the hut but then encounters the cairns again. We broke trail to the right of the hut as the route goes to the left. Visibility was not too good, so we decided to summit Monroe and save Eisenhower for another day. Met a couple friendly gentlemen who knew lots of Gridiots and members of the hiking community too! Saw several small groups who planned to go up to Washington. Coming down was so much fun and took half the time it had taken to hike up. The sun was peaking out as we entered the trees but the summits were still socked in. |
