Comments
Comments: Parked at Beaver Brook and began a 4.5 mile walk to the N. Twin Trail via Haystack Rd. Was picked up by a kindly fellow hiker within about 1/4 mile, and chauffeured to the end of Little River Rd. while being instructed on the easiest route to the trailhead. THANK YOU Bill. The trail was groomed from the road to the Little River crossings BW by a sled pulled by snowshoers and followed by the canine equivalent Bigfoot - HUGE paw prints! From the end of the BW to N. Twin was tracked out (Thanks to Wayne from prior posts) with a couple of inches of fresh snow and some drifting near the top. Lots of minor drifting between the Twins, but never sank more than about six inches. The trail was indistinguishable from S. Twin to the Gale River Trail junction due to drifting, great going down, but I would not have wanted to go up the Twinway in that condition. Frost Trail was 50% obscured and difficult to follow in a couple of spots, with the deepest drifts of the day encountered here, over my knees in a couple of spots. Found a single set of snowshoe tracks at a campsite on the Gale River Rd. coming from the direction of the Beaver Brook XC Trails and followed them back to the parking lot.

Going down the Gale River Trail, I saw two backpackers on the way up to spend the night near Galehead Hut. They planned to hike over to the Bonds on Sunday before heading out. Since they were parked across from Gale River Rd., so the Gale River Trail should be pretty well broken out despite any new snow accumulation over this weekend.
