| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Tons, and I mean TONS of blowdowns. Blazes very hard to see/find when breaking trail. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
A dog would not stand a chance in that powder at higher altitude, it would just be cruel. |

We started at 0700, went out livermore trail beyond Norway Rapids junction breaking trail through 1-2 feet of powder (sometimes more). Going was quite slow through the drifts. Continued to the North Mt. Tripyramid trail, with some wanderings when the blazes were tough to find. When we gained the bottom of the North Slide we continued with snowshoes and poles. Considered Ice Axe use, would have been safer, but the poles helped MUCH more wading through all that powder. Long, steep ascent, sticking to the side of the slide to avoid open slope.
Reached North Tripyramid and saw two hikers (Rocket21 and friend), who were headed back down. We proceeded to Middle Tripyramid, beyond which there were no tracks. We then decided to hit the Southern peak and descend the south slide. It was tough going in the deep snow once more, but glacading down the slide was quick, and actually the slope was quite stable.
Then the connector trail from the bottom of the slide back to livermore trail was a mess of blowdowns and deep drifts but absolutely gorgeous. We regained the livermore trail and exited at about 6pm.
Overall tons of snow, not too cold, nice views at times, and let me tell you, we earned every bit of those three peaks, breaking trail all day in powder is a serious workout! It was a day to remember and a beautiful climb with a new climbing buddy! |
