Date of Hike: Friday, February 22, 2013
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Sawyer River Road closed. Adequate, plowed parking in lot at Route 302/Sawyer River Road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The one stream crossing was not snow or ice bridged. The water level was low, and it could be rock-hopped without real difficulty, though it was awkward with snowshoes.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No real blowdown issues, though there are a couple here and there as well as windblown debris. Signage seemed okay. I did not notice any blazing, except on the re-routes, and a couple more blazes in those areas would have been helpful. Could use some brushing in the softwoods.

Comments
Comments: Sawyer River Road was well packed for/by snowmachines - barebootable, and good for sled-hauling. A few open drainages on lower part of SRT. First reroute of SRT was straightforward. At second reroute, at first I followed tracks straight ahead, instead of turning left uphill. I appreciated Biscuitman's tracks from Wednesday, but in many places the tracks were drifted in, in whole or in part. Breaking trail over wind-drifted sidehill drifts was vexing at times. A little bare rock and ice on the open ridge, but easily snowshoed - used snowshoes for the entire trail up and down.
