Snowshoes the way to go. There was about 2-4 inches of new powder down low, then 4-6 up high with some drifting. Summit ledges had nice snow ramp so manageable in snowshoes. Had trail all to myself this morning (easy light trail breaking), but then encountered 5 parties coming up later, all wearing snowshoes, so trail is packed well, though still loose now. Let's keep it that way and block all members of NEBA (New England Barebooters Association) from using the trail. The purely sunny day never happened on Jackson and many peaks between 4k-5k range this morning as they kept their clouds blocking views. 0mph wind permitted a prolonged summit stay. Great morning out. |
