Decided to do this after ditching our A plan of Ike/Pierce/Jack for fear of lengthy exposure. Great trail conditions thanks to a group of hares who struck out ahead of us. In protected leeward side of the mountain for 3 miles so the howling NW winds didn't affect us for most of the trip. Only occasional views offered between the trees but they were spectacular. Lunched at the cabin for 30 minutes and changed into dry clothes. Quick pitch to the true summit then back to the cabin to tighten boots for decent. Carried the mail on the way down - almost felt like walking on a sidewalk. Round trip in about 6-1/2 hours. Only saw six others all day so I expect there were only eight of us 'hikersicles' on the mountain. Glad to have this one off the list. |
