Wow... What a tough day on the Cats! We ascended the Wildcat Ridge trail loosely following tracks in our snow shoes, but with all the drifting, we were breaking some trail soon enough. The wind was hollering at the top by the ski lift (some of the worst I can recall) We saw a few of the ski patrol closing up shop when we arrived around noon. The lift was closed too. The exposed sections of the ridge were a challenge due to the wind and little ice to get some traction into. Coming back from A, we ran into two separate couples - all wearing boots and yak trax. Horrible postholes abound. As Sunshine said, the snow will most likely drift and fill them in in no time. A few times, the trail gets lost in the drifts, but is easy enough to pick up again. Descending the trail from D was a Challenge for sure. With some opportunistic and careful glissading, we were back to the truck around dusk. |
