Comments
Comments: After bagging Mt Monroe and Mt Washington on Thursday but deciding to skip our third objective Mt Jefferson due to declining visibility, Cynthia and I returned to Marshfield today to pick up Jefferson. We found the Jewel Trail to be in the same condition we left it in after breaking it out from the top down on Thursday 2/14. In the parking lot our twosome became a threesome with the addition of Zach who needed Jefferson to complete his first round of the 48. Jewel Trail has an excellent snowshoe track to above Burt Ravine and treeline. Above treeline snowcover is occasionally thin or blown off leaving rocks exposed. The Gulfside Trail is especially boney through Sphinx Col and up to Monticello Lawn. The three of us stayed in snowshoes the entire day, but others may find light traction more appropriate on the rocks. Today was a significant milestone for Cynthia, who finished her February Grid, and another Winter 48 Single Season! Congratulations Cynthia!! Zach finished his first round of the 48, congratulation Zach! I was able to share in Cynthia's, and Zach's accomplishments by finishing my Mt Jefferson Grid. A great day for all of us. Also great engaging conversation with Wayne above Sphinx Col, and apres-hike in the parking lot. Hope to see you all on the trails again soon. GT
