| Comments: |
An inch of fresh powder over packed trail made for some great snowshoeing through the woods for the first few miles. Followed the packed trail up to North peak - just a few inches of snow had drifted in. Snowshoes were adequate traction up the steeps. Packed trail petered out shortly after North peak, and we broke trail over to south peak in 20-24 inches of snow. Along the ridge, snow starting to consolidate from winds and the wet-snow/sleet/freezing rain from yesterday. Drifts were marginal until the last few climbs up to South peak where we found a few impressively deep ones. Just 2 of us breaking trail across this section so not a perfect snowshoe track - a little rough until it gets a bit more traffic. Breaking trail going down from South peak was a blast. First time we were not on our butts descending this peak in winter! Should be some awesome snowshoe-glissading for whoever comes next. Not quite ready for butt-sledding yet....
