Comments
Comments: A real black and white day with overcast obscuring the peaks today. There was a glazing of ice over the lower trail from the connector to half way up Crawford path. Perhaps 2 inches on new snow under it, increasing to 4" past the Mitzpah cutoff. Some drifting on the ridge. We left Eisenhower out for the day due to lack of visibility on the peaks. The Webster Cliff trail had been broken out by two hikers yesterday which was helpful although many sections were completely blown in and drifted knee deep. The rest of the trail had 8 inches or more of new and drifted snow so had to be essentially broken out again. Met a couple 1/2 mile down from Jackson Summit who were on their way up and who were on snowshoes. About a mile down the trail we found they had been barebooting and chewed things up a bit the first 1.5 miles of their hike. Our snow shoes straightened that out and hopefully after they summited, they left their shoes on for the descent. Some pretty significant gusts on the peaks, perhaps up to 50 with more sustained 35-40 mph winds but warm, in the 20's. Great day out with Scott once again...
