| Comments: |
Livermore Trail was groomed to just past Norway Rapids junction. Snowcat turned around at that point, due to huge number of blowdowns. From there, we followed two snowshoe tracks to the north Mt. Tripyramid Trail junction. We broke trail from there (bushwhacking) up to the Scaur Ridge Trail, up Pine Bend Brook Trail, and over to Middle Tripyramid. There was no sign of any previous snowshoe troughs. My best guess is that there was 2-3 feet of new snow around 2,500'. 1-2 feet likely drifted in and filled the previous snowshoe trough, which then set up. On top of that there was about 12-18" of fresh powder (not particularly heavy or sticky...at the trailhead, there was 4-6" new, quickly increasing along Livermore Trail). Snow continued to fall throughout the day, filling in our tracks (along with the wind). Some pretty big drifts on Pine Bend Brook and near Middle Tripyramid. No sign of any traffic on Pine Bend Brook Trail below Scaur Ridge, or on Sabbaday Brook Trail. |
