Due to the recent rain and higher temperatures, the streams were moving quickly and the water was high. All the ice-bridges were gone, so there were pretty treacherous crossings. Moving up or down the river by postholing and bushwhacking allowed for easier crosses, but more energy spent. We found that as long as you stay on the east side of the brook you can bypass 4 of the 6 major crossings (the last 4 on the way up). So the way down was much easier by bushwhacking 100 yds or so down the east bank of the brook on the way back. If you aren't comfortable with bushwhacking/postholing, then I'd definitely recommend waterproof boots, high gaiters, and extra socks. Other than that, the ascent up to north peak was short, very steep, but very fun! A fun day to be had! |
