Comments
Comments: Wore Hillsound spikes up to the level of the first tram tower where I changed over to full crampons for the remainder of the hike. The bottom of the was trail mostly ice covered by a trace amount of snow that the Hillsounds were fine for. I went over a couple of sections of flow ice before changing to the crampons, but should have changed earlier. One woman made it to the top in MicroSpikes, but it could not have been easy for her. Everyone else I saw - approximately 10-12 others - all wore either crampons or Hillsound Trail Pros and seemed to be doing OK. Once the hiking trail veers left of the ski trail and the woods begin, it is pretty much hard snow and ice again until the top of the mountain other than some rock in the exposed area between the Lookout and the Rim Trail. The middle of the trail, where it parallels the ski trail, had several areas of flow ice, one or two of which, could have some painfully bruising consequences in the case of a fall.
