Comments
Comments: Ice and snow on the lower reaches of the mountain where light traction is adequate. Higher up, it's all ice and exposed rock, which makes for difficult going. The steep initial pitch of the winter Lions trail is particularly difficult due to a long stretch of exposed rock. We dodged to the right, but that involved a short bit of vertical ice. Above treeline there is considerable exposed rock. Was beaten back by the winds above the Lions head just before 10am, when the summit was topping out at 80mph with sustained winds in the 70s.
