Trail is very well packed early on. Significant ice flows about a mile in where the streams cross the trail, but these are easily skirted. I was the first one up and encountered 1-2 ft blown snow as soon as the steeps started. Very surprising and slow going with just the micros on. More drifts on the Carriage road, but nothing unusual. Snow was largely blown off above treeline. Could have used snow shows for the 1/2 half of the hike but would have been complete overkill for the first half. Encountered 14 people on the way down, 4 with snowshoes and 8 with micros or bare boots. Trail should be pretty well packed now and I wouldn't bother with snow shoes tomorrow. Completely clear, sunny day with high winds on the summit. |
