Despite the weather report for snow and sleet before 9, the sky was blue and only 1 car in lot. They had camped and I saw them on my way down. They are the new trail maintainers.
The beginning of the trail is a little rough not the fast track of last week but packed wit increasing amounts of powder and drifting on the way back. Blue skies gave way to heavy snow and I was thinking about turning around just before the blowdowns when a young Canadian blew by. He said that there were 3 more men that he passed. Now I had someone ahead of me to track the new snow, 1"-2" and people behind me. In all there were 10 people on the trail all with snowshoes but the increasing winds were causing drifts. The bushwhack had a dead end so I back tracked and took a left that seemed to be going in the wrong direction but it got me to the trail. The people who followed broke a continueing track from the dead end but I went back the way I came. Just before the parking lot there were about 6 kids barebooting, they said they were going to be here for a week so I suggested that they use snowshoes for the remainder of their hikes as they were messing up the nicely packed trail |
