on ascent we bypassed both crossings via the snowmobile bridges..on descent we took the upper crossing which was solidly bridged and skipped the lower one |

all kinds of conditions today. road walk solid where plowed ..used snowshoes for awhile..very bony in the "reroute" section and then the snow got very sticky so barebooted to around 3000 feet. Snow depths increased dramatically from there with much drifting and 2-4 inches of fresh snow and the snowshoes came back on. Very breezy and gusty on summit with spitting sleet and snow ..pretty dark and chilly.25 degrees...25-35 mph winds. Quick buttslide back to the jct and the snow intensity picked up dramatically and we hiked down in some pretty good squalls. Cut off a few of the switchbacks on descent through deep loose powder very fun. Once down below the sun came out and there were blue skies around tho it got colder as the day went on. Interesting conditions with the trees really moving in the gusty winds today. Saw 2 skiers who skied past the jct and were having a blast and 3 barebooters up by the ridge gloating that the trail had been broken out..they were headed to Galehead. Fine day out with Valerie with all kinds of weather conditions |
