|
| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of room in the fee parking area. Drove behind a state plow truck for a distance on the Kanc this morning. By evening the road was bare. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
West Branch of the Oliverian Brook on the Passaconaway Cut-Off is mostly open water but it was very shallow. There was no snow/ice bridge so the crossing is made on small submerged rocks and small logs. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Cut out many fallen trees on the Oliverian Brook Trail prior to the Wilderness border. Left the bend overs as they did not cause difficulties. There are fallen trees on the other three trails but none caused any problems. The tree with the trail sign at the junction of Walden and East Loop is bent over. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw one dog down low who was enjoying the hike. Water for drinking is available on the Oliverian Brook and lower section of the Passaconaway Cut-Off. |

| Comments: |
The trail was broken out the entire distance. The Walden Trail was chopped up from bare boot traffic which made the going slower in snowshoes. The Oliverian Brook Trail beyond Passaconaway Cut-Off, the Square Ledge Trail to Square Ledge, and the Walden Trail beyond the Square Ledge Trail junction were all unbroken. Dicey's Mill and East Loop were broken out.
Nice views of the lakes, Gunstock and Pats Peak ski areas from the south outlook on the Walden Trail. Views of Chocorua, Pleasant Mtn, and Kearsarge North from the east outlook. |
