Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The three crossings are tricky especially the first one. Given the warmth of the week until last night, there has been melting and the water is high for this time of year. No bridges and the ice is very questionalbe though on the 2nd and 3rd crossing you could get from rock to rock. The first crossing had several inches of ice and slushy ice on top of some rocks in the middle. We went for it with our snowshoes on and made it but it was sketchy. May be better tomorrow if the water level drops and the cold temps do their magic.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Bruce trimmed one blowdown but otherwise trail is great.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Would have been difficult for most dogs with the cold. I suspect any dog would have gotten wet feet today at the crossings.

Comments
Comments: When I got up this AM and read the MWO forecast of wind chill warning I thought about going back to sleep. Thankfully Bruce prodded me to get moving. It was cold but never too bad. 10-12 below at the trail intersection just below the summit but the wind was not as bad as I had expected. In the sun on the southern exposure at the summit it was calm and we were able to stay on the summit for 20 minutes. Had spectacular views. There is not alot of new snow. Maybe 3 inches near the summit. The trail up to the switchbacks is very boney and from the switchbacks on there were numerous ankle wrenching post holes. But for the rock hard post holes we probably could have used spikes all day but snowshoes were a much better option. 2 other people helped smooth out this trail. Thanks Brian for a great day.
