Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: This trail looks so much better in snow; it hides the eroding trenches. No blowdowns of consequence. Snow ranged from packed to soft to slush. Barebooters had postholed it some but the softened bed also meant a soft landing for a snowshoe which in turn tended to fill in the holes and flatten the bed. Unfortunately the last ones we saw on the trail were barebooters so the trail could be roughened up after their downhill. As long as it is warm though, it will be an easy snowshoe. But when the cold temps come this could be a very rough and icy trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Easy day for Pepper and Shiya as there was no icing, decent support on the trail bed (but off it they would sink in some), mild temps and a short hike. Pepper wore his sweater but didn't need it. Shiya is made for the snow with a beautiful long white coat.

Comments
Comments: It was a beautiful partly sunny day on the mountain, the valleys seeing only a foggy day. It made for some nice scenics of course. There was a pretty good breeze on the open ledges, but it lessened some on the summit and the tower. Thanks to Cory and Shiya for getting us out for a splendid quick hike; we had been real iffy about doing any hike given the forecast. We didn't see any skiers using the cutoff which was unbroken, but the rope was down and the no hikers signs were gone. I'm sure hikers aren't supposed to go over there given the park's history of putting up No Hiking signs at the drop of a hat, but we did see one person hiking up with skis. We used snowshoes for the whole hike for both traction and flotation, but several others were barebooting. What a nice day in the sun.
