Comments
Comments: An inch or two of new powder down low. Above Mizpah Cutoff, trail was drifted in a lot of places - broke out and packed down. Trail very hard to follow today between Webster Cliff junction and Eisenhower Loop junction - very limited visibility, large drifts (5 feet), lots of burried cairns (found a few while walking over them). Broke out in both directions - drifting in that quickly. Webster Cliff Trail south of Pierce is FUBAR. A maze of well packed herd paths depart south, then go who knows where off the east side. I ended up hopping over and finding the real trail at the south peak and followed to the hut. About half a mile or so south of the hut, the trail again becomes tricky - a bunch of paths heading west downhill. I opted to bushwhack and found (and lost) the trail multiple times (found the frozen marsh areas though). Plenty of spruce traps, drifts, and blowdowns. Net net - if you intend to go between these peaks, you'll likely have a lot more success following my tracks northbound from Jackson to Pierce. From Jackson down, the Webster-Jackson Trail was well packed for snowshoe traffic. The ledge area below treeline is nicely filled in and is essentially a ramp.
