zealand road was snowmobile packed for the first mile. techincally snowmobiles are not supposed to be on this section of road, but i saw a couple who acted as though they had the right of way and clearly many had been through so be careful and watch out for them especially if cruising down on skis. beyond the bridge the road had a mix of tracks including hardpacked snowshoe, ski and some untracked powder. hale brook trail had a nice snowshoe track with a little drifting higher up. just enough powder to soften things up on the descent.
wore snowshoes the whole hike. could boot the road if feeling so inclined.
a nice day to hike hale. some limited views and lots of interesting clouds interspersed with some sun and blue sky. trees in the upper section of the trail were just laden with snow. could feel the winds ramping up on the walk out. great to be out.
