Someone appears to have skinned to top and skied entire way down in the past couple of days. I bare booted up; snowshoed down. A couple from Quebec ahead of me were over half way down when I was on my way up. Garfield Ridge Trail to Galehead appeared to be still broken out with a couple inches of new snow on top. I forgot to look to see if GRT broken out towards Lafayette to west. About 6-8 inches snow at trailhead, increasing to 2-3 feet in upper reaches. Really cold on top (-16 F ?), so I abandoned thoughts of hiking through the night to Galehead and the Twins. Another January grid pm solo to check off list. Diffuse lighting from sunset on top was surreal. |
