Comments
Comments: Another wind chill advisory day so Dave and I decided Moriah was perfect. After using a lot of effort on the steeps of Osceola and East Osceola yesterday I was dragging to the ridge. But once up with the howling winds and very limited visibility I got some higher octane. The trail to the ridge is well compacted. The last turn to the south before the ridge in an open area had confused previous hikers and there were a couple of tracks leading nowhere (just go to the right). Limited drifting on Stony Brook.

The Carter Moriah trail was another matter. Very limited use headed toward North Carter and very drifted in many places headed toward Moriah. Nevertheless except for the last open ledge to the west we never had any trail finding issues though it helped that both of us were familiar with the Carter Moriah trail. (At the last ledge stay left and drop slightly). The short steep section just before the summit was fine. It did not look as if the Carter Moriah trail northbound had seen any recent traffic. If the winds keep dropping the track we laid down will be decent. Great day out with Dave to close out 2012. Happy 2013 Hiking!!
