a winter chill in the air today. 4-6 inches of nice new fluff down below . we were pleased to see those before us in snowshoes which we wore from car to car. Last nights snow tracked out to the ridge before we saw our first barebooters. Windy on Liberty but we got there before it got too cold. Dropped down on a loosely broken out track to Flume. We could feel the temps dropping, a snowshoe person who had broken out trail and the a bunch of barebooters reported wind on Flume and they were right. Heavy drifting along the final approach..we tagged the summit and dropped down quickly into the woods. It was COLD! Lots of snow along the ridge...very beautiful day. Trail back was choppy and tedious from mess left from previous hikers back to Liberty where it is a bit more consolidated. Coldest and windiest spot of the day was coming back across the knobs there on Liberty. Saw a group we had met in the parking lot earlier..one had a frost nip going on as did Tim which was quickly covered. Trip down was choppy, 50/50 with hikers in snowshoes and light traction today. Great day out with a real winter bite in the air with Tim and Valerie |
