Comments: Hey..first day of winter so off we go. Forecast sounded a bit dire so we downsized to Hale. High winds through the Notch and along Route 3 . Barebooted on ascent to Firewardens in 4-8 inches of snow..easy going with time spent knocking snow off branches. Some quite gusty winds sure had the trees moving. Put on snowshoes after the wet sidehill on Firewardens and left them on most of the rest of the way. Looking forward to getting the winter legs back as it was pretty tough going in places. Gorgeous winter day in the woods and snow depths increased to 12-16 inches above 3800 feet with some rugged drifts and gusty windblown snow and sleet, we did not linger on summit and flew down our packed out snowshoe track on descent. Went from snow to sleet and finally rain by the time we reached North twin Trail where the snow turned to slush in many places. Quite an adventure in an assortment of weather which seemed like mid winter up on the ridge. Great day out with Tim and Val..Great gear test for all!!!
