Comments
Comments: Ice, ice, and more ice. Basically needed spikes from the parking lot clear up to the summit. Lonesome Lake trail was a sheet of ice this morning. There were some large ice flows on Fishin' Jimmy. I carefully navigated around them with just microspikes but crampons would probably be a lot safer and more appropriate. The worst ice was probably in the middle of the trail near the stairs. Had to go around and not use the ice covered stairs. By covered I mean 3-4" of ice. Didn't look like anyone else had used that trail in a while but it was beautiful. Glad I (very carefully!)hiked it.

Kinsman Ridge trail was also very icey. The clouds lifted and I had spectacular views from both summits. The night before, the summits seem to have gotten a new inch of snow in places. Saw only one other hiker on the ridge and he had come from Kinsman Mountain Trail(?)or whatever the name of the other way up is. He said that trail was in good shape with some icey spots. By the time I got back down the mountain, some of the ice leading from the campground to Lonesome Lake had melted and I was able to bare boot it carefully the last half mile or so. Parking lot was still covered in ice when I left.
