| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Gale River Road closed. Parked at Beaver Brook Ski Trail Parking lot, which was clear of snow and ice. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Wet Trail, Snow - Unpacked Powder |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
There is so little snow up there, that some of the little streams are open and running with bare rocks to contend with while wearing snow shoes. The bigger crossings are still bridged, but showing signs of failing- use caution. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One blow down in the Gale river Trail that requires a removal of backpack and squeeze through/ OR bushwhack WAY out of the way to go around. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Our Trail mascot, Madison had a great time today, and must have done about 2 1/2 times our mileage running to and fro. No hazards bothered her today, except that she never found the fox whose trail she followed all the way out. |

| Comments: |
Great hike today, conditions on the trail were a combination of firmly consolidated snow pack, followed by two to four inches of fresh powder at higher elevations, which is now broken out and packed down. Microspikes were fine until the trail steepened. The snow bridge across the largest crossing broke off this morning right by the bank. We stepped over that section on the return. It won't be long before that one is gone. Part of our group continued on to Garfield, where they encountered a slow-go and lots of ice by the waterfall nearing the shelter. |
