Comments
Comments: forecast looked decent though reality was foreboding coming into the notch. We dropped a vehicle at Basin. Wasnt too bad at lafayette place though you could hear the wind. Footing decent in gradually increasing snow depths..8-10 inches by the time we reached the hut. While conditions will change this was pretty good footing with many rocks filled in..spikes were perfect with a few icy spots

The weather did not seem to be going our way however. Once to the hut we came across a guy..obviously dressed in everything he had.. he had made the summit earlier but reported zero visibility and "quite windy" While fine he was a bit shaken. Temp at the hut was 14, wind in the 20's very low visibility with blowing snow and fog. We called it a day and went home and and did Christmas chores..way colder and windier than forecast..with the addition of low visibiilty we made it into a good acclimating hike and enjoyed the nice snow on descent. Winter in the Whites!!!
