Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The first two crossings of the Rocky Branch (last heading out) were very difficult after dark. There was enough water and plenty of ice on rocks to make then treacherous. The upper three crossings were fine.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of work needs to be done to remove the blowdowns on the Isolation Trail before it merges with the Davis Path. But other hikers had removed branches so it was possible to get through. On the Davis path north of the intersection with Isolation Trail the blowdowns were frequent and it appeared we were the first party through with saws. We removed branches so its a little easier to get through the 1/2 mile of so section of blowdowns. Lots of work will need to get done
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Nick had quite a day. Enough trail water for the most part.

Comments
Comments: Great to go to Isolation via Glen Boulder -- really a classic White Mtn hike especially combined with a trip to the Stairs and Crawford. Not enough daylight for that yesterday. There was no ice on the scramble section of the Glen Boulder trail but the views were fantastic. Dropping down the Davis path I though we might avoid blowdowns. But about halfway to the intersection they started and continued until the second intersection where others had cleared branches. Not much trail ice getting to the summit of Iso where we again had great views.

Returning was slow going with alot of ice and water down to the upper crossing. We had spikes but they were not necessary. We decided against Engine Hill BW as light was fading. THe next two crossings were uneventful. THe fourth was difficult and Irene had eaten the opposite bank and in the dark it was never clear where the trail was. The last crossing was a leap of faith--great job Barbara. Then a long trudge to the car. I did have my little radio to catch the Pats game. It made up for the another time the Pats played the Ravens in the playoffs a couple years ago when I also did Iso. That long trudge out was not as pleasant. Thanks BarbaraR and DaveC for a spectacular if long day!!
