water crossings were not an issue though up a bit with some icy rocks that require caution. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
i removed almost all of the blowdown on the loop trail except for a couple large diameter stepovers that shouldn't be much of an issue. numerous nuisance step overs remain of the cedar brook trail, but i did take out a few. |

| Comments: |
hancock notch trail dry and frozen with a few sections of ice where seeps run into the trail. muddy areas mostly frozen. moderate sandy damage in a couple areas.
cedar brook trail has lots of standing water. a coating of snow started on the loop trail with sections of ice and the snow increasing to a pretty full coat up on the north peak and the ridge. minimal to no ice on the north branch, the ridge or on the descent of south hancock. the big mud pit below south peak was mostly frozen and could be walked across.
used an old dull pair of microspikes on the ridge and for the descent of south hancock which allowed me to travel a bit faster.
after reading recent reports about blowdowns i decided my goal for the day would be to remove as much of the blowdown on the loop trail as i could while still getting back home in time to vote. it was beautiful up high with blue skies and snow in the trees. little to no wind, but still pretty cold. very quiet out there today. good to be out. |
