We found a heavy-duty black dog leash at the top of the mountain, attached to some of the old fire-tower supports.
I brought this back down to the trailhead and I left this on the trailhead sign. There was also a light-duty purple dog-leash here too.

Beautiful day for a hike! We even saw blue sky at times!
