perfect hike day before storm. After leisurely breakfast and a late start made quick work of ascent to Garfield on mostly dry trail. Some leaves were slippy in places. Opted for minor bushwacks around the water crossings which were fine. Caught up with friends at the summit and enjoyed a nice stay for a bit though it was a little windy. We split with them at Ridge trail jct and headed for Gale River Trail. Garfield Shelter is a beautiful building in a great location..had not seen the new building yet. Trail across mostly dry wih several rough and steep spots as well as sporadic views. Reached Gale River Trail..steps were dry and we flew down them..once to the flats the leaves got very deep and mades for some slippery rough footing at times. The reroute shows signs of hardening off and while there were wet spots on the northern end it was mostly dry with good footing. All bets are off for the next few days. Be careful everyone with this storm...a big one!!! |
