Comments: No problem following instructions from former hikers comments on the hike to Redington. After this peak I needed Mt. Abraham for to complete the 115.

At the Caribou outlet, where the bridge crossing is, I tried to aim for the col via an old logging road witch was now just a huge bog. The rain event that occurred Tuesday night made the area one huge bog. The bowl area surrounding Caribou Pond is like a giant sponge that has the capacity to hold great amounts of water and release it slowing back to tributaries and eventually the brooks and streams. Having no GPS the task would be difficult. My first attempt ended in failure. The route I took, approx. .6 of a mile from the bridge turned left into old logging road which was now a water bog. Followed for about 1/4 mile and tried to bushwhack except the pines were so dense you could not even weave yourself thru and any attempt to return this way would be futile. I left and exited to main logging road. After some hikers had somehow come from the AT, I tried another route. I remembered from Satellite imagery that one of the old logging roads made a complete "U" hook further up the southeast quadrant and came close to the AT trail. I tried this route and after the beginning of the u turn took what looked like a trail to the southeast. After about a half mile I turned around not knowing were I was going. Upon further review of Satellite imagery I actually ended up within 1/4 mile of the junction of the Abraham Side Trail. It was a good try at least. If I had a GPS device, I would have completed my task.

On the way back I checked the crossing at the South Branch stream crossing @ the AT trail. It was raging and unpassable and did not look like it would be crossable anytime soon. Maybe by Saturday but I could not wait. Abraham will have to wait. Ended up hiking about 15 miles for this day
