 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
No issues getting to the parking area just before the metal bridge (~1/2 mile before AT crossing). Road blocked to vehicular traffic beyond this point, though I expect it will open soon as they've replaced one of the bridges between here and the AT crossing, just needs some filling up to it. Road beyond AT crossing towards Caribou Pond is in very poor shape in spots, a Jeep might make it to the pond (MAYBE), but nothing else will (bridges are out/in poor shape, major washouts, rutting, etc).
Drove in in a Subaru Outback, but most cars would get in fine, as the bridges and culverts leading to the parking area have been largely fixed. Road is a bit rutted in spots though, so take it slow. Some major holes were marked with logs sticking out of them, but no idea if they will remain, so watch out. |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Nothing worth a mention |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trail getting a bit overgrown on the South side of North Crocker near the top. Could use some brushing. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw one between the Crockers. Not a particularly water-rich hike, so bring water for your trail doggie. Nothing terribly hard terrain-wise, a little scree up to South Crocker is all. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Couple mosquitoes near the parking lot, but nothing major. Summits were clear of pests. |

Nice hike, but limited in views. South Crocker has a cleared patch towards Abraham/Sugarloaf/Spaulding, Redington has a interesting view. Some nice views of the Bigelows from the scree/slide going up South Crocker.
Herd path to Redington was easy to find at South Crocker summit, but quickly got painful with pencil woods, patches of thick spruce, etc going towards the col. Overall not too hard to follow, just a couple spots where we had to stop for a moment to find the right way. Things opened up once hitting the col, and especially hitting the fork where the path to the roads out comes in partway up Redington. Opted to take the longer, boring route down the logging roads to the CVR (with a loooong roadwalk) versus 'whacking back. Time-wise I think it would be a wash, but effort-wise it was way less, just boring.
5 ME peaks down in 2 days. |
