Comments
Comments: I bushwacked up to Russell Mt using the strong flowing stream a mile and a half before the Wassataquoik Stream crossing. The stream will take you to about 2700 feet high if you follow it all the way(very steep up high). I broke off the stream after a half mile to climb the open rock ledges which bring you pretty close to the top of Russell. Bushwacked down to the Northwest Basin Trail passing by some open ledges on the west side of Russell. There are streams on the north and south side of Mullen Mt that will both get you to around 2500-2700 feet of elevation and a half mile bushwack to the summit. Bushwacking in the southern end of Baxter State Park is very thick and time consuming. A few tenths of a mile can take a long time when your reduced to crawling on the ground. It felt good to get back to the Russell Pond Trail and run again. Changed clothes in the parking lot and went up South Turner Mt for the sunset.
