No reservation, but no problem getting a spot around midday. The ranger I spoke with suggested that it is possible to park at Roaring Brook most days without a reservation, although reservations do get to enter earlier. |

Quite a bit of erosion on South Turner Mountain trail for a stretch shortly before arriving at treeline. 2 intertwined blowdowns, about 6-8 inch diameter near start of South Turner Mountain trail with herd path going around them. Blue blazes could use a refresh throughout. |

Saw a moose grazing in Sandy Stream Pond at first viewpoint. Great way to start the hike! Most of Sandy Stream Pond trail is on boardwalks. They are generally in good shape, but require some concentration as they vary from single felled trees to doubles. Quite a jumble of boulders at the base of South Turner Mountain trail made going a little slow at first. Scramble to the summit is a little hard to follow, but basically goes straight up from cairn at treeline. Blazes were fairly hard to see climbing the slide and a number of wandering user paths add to the challenge of finding the actual trail. (There is only the one cairn at the base of the slide.) Views were outstanding from the summit! |
