We parked on Kennebago River Rd at a locked big red gate where the road splits into Big Island and Crowley Brook rd, a couple miles south of the west Boil peak. Plenty of room on the side. |

We made a big bushwhack loop of these great remote peaks. Two are NE/ME 3k’s and 2 are NE 1000. Jars were found on all but the first peak. The registers on Boil and Onion went back to the 80s but Boil’s was soggy, so Remi brought it home to dry out and replaced it with a fresh jar and pad. There was some beautiful softwood forest here up high with views if you looked for them. Some hobblebush down low, but not a lot of logging regrowth, which was a nice change. We did find old roadbeds/ skidder paths to use, of course, but mainly took direct lines between the 4 peaks, then walked out on Crowley Brook, which would be drivable if the gate was open. It took us about 8.5 hours to do this 10.5 mile loop, a solid day’s work. |
