There was plenty of parking room at the nearby Bremen Fire Station at the town forest trailhead. The trail to Johnson Hill is a little to the south on Route 22, across from Medomak Road and marked with a sign that reads "Walking Trails, no ATVs." |

 | Comments: |
Up Johnston Hill & to fire tower via a trail system on private land marked as open to walking but not vehicles. Lots of water running off the mountain. Trails are marked with yellow blazes and occasional flagging but are overgrown and tricky to follow in places. Fire tower is on private land near a mountaintop house (the driveway that leads to the house is posted). A couple of the bottom tower steps were rotted out; I made sure to step above the steel cross frame and step angle brackets just in case. Amazing views from the top encompassing Muscongus Sound & Bay, and its islands and peninsulas. Whoever built the trail and made the tower available to walkers--thank you! |
