Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: This was a 2 day project of removing a fire ring that was constructed right by the start of the Mt Zircon trail. Someone made a large fire ring, left uneaten and uncooked food and several bags of trash as well as a foil pan and cooking grate. They also dragged one of the logs that blocks the hiking trail from ATVs over as a seat. I packed out most of the trash yesterday and returned today to dismantle the fire ring and remove the grate and foil pan. The log was too heavy for me to roll back in place but maybe someone else with a crew can push it back into place by the trailhead.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This is an excellent trail for dogs but I didn't have any to pet today. :(
Bugs
Bugs: Oh boy. The black flies are out and they are hungry. I used picaridin on my skin and a head net. I also found one tick despite all that and despite treating my clothes and summer gaiter, socks, and boots with permethrin.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing lost and nothing found unless you count all the trash I packed out... Grrrr

Comments
Comments: The trail is in really nice shape. The rocks on the upper part of the trail are still damp and very slick so use caution on those. The ledges up to the summit were dry and offered good traction. The spring is flowing well if you want water. Trillium are starting to pop out all along the top part of the trail. The bugs are out in full force so bring all the stuff for those but there was a nice breeze today which really helped. If anyone can move that log back (see trail maintenance notes) to block off ATVs that would be great. I am just not strong enough to do it aolo.
