Comments
Comments: No snow or ice on the trails. The steep ledges on the Starr Trail were dry. I ascended Rumford Whitecap via the steeper Starr Trail (via the crossover from the Iles Trail using the short Connector Trail). I descended via the gentler Iles Trail. The summit has a USGS metal disk. I continued past the summit to the eastern ledges on a faintly marked route. Great views on the Starr Trail ledges and across the entire lengthy summit ridge. The only detraction are the nearby wind farm and the antennas on Black Mountain. On descent from the summit, one must pay close attention to the paint blazes that aren't always evident.
Only met two other hikers on the trail. One from Lewiston had hiked the Black/White Trail.
Saw one Painted Trillium and a lavender butterfly or moth.
