Comments
Comments: Hiked the 6 miles down Williams pond rd into Nesowdehunk and stayed the night in cozy cabin Thursday. The next morning we set out early down the tote road snowmobile trail to the trailhead and started up. Marston trail was in great shape down low, well packed and we only needed spikes for most of it. Gets a bit more difficult about a half mile from the ridge/junction with a bunch of ducking under trees due to the snowpack. Once on the ridge we first tried heading over towards south brother as it appeared to be packed out, but found that it was only packed a couple hundred yards at best and looked to be a fairly major challenge to get any more done with just two of us. Backtracked and decided to just go for north brother and maybe fort. North brother had tracks that could at least be followed to treeline, but didn’t look like it had actually been broken out in a month or so. Very very difficult going as we wound up having to crawl under many branches and leaning trees while trying to stay on what was packed under the fresh coating, the tree wells are no joke there currently, could be dangerous if not with someone else. Once we hit treeline the trail was pretty much impossible to figure out, found many a spruce trap making progress slow, but it wasn’t as deep so not quite as intense as down lower. Once we got to the summit we decided it was not the year to try for fort and turned around. All in all a fun day for the Crockers, but extremely tiring and we didn’t bother to attempt a second day for Coe or making any more headway towards South Brother.
