Out & back to Old speck to knock off one for winter. The trail was broken out but still soft so snowshoes were the way to go start to finish. There was a nice solid base all the way up to about 1/2 mile before the junction with the Mahoosuc trail. Here there was one small steep section that was so heavily drifted over it required postholing above the knees even with snowshoes. Other than that section the rest of the climb was fine. Descent was a breeze and from a mile before the eyebrow junction there was a fresh set of skis that nicely smoothed out the trail for us. Typical winter conditions, snowshoes are definitely they way to go right now |
