Had a great and chilly day on the speck. There was a packed but somewhat drifted over trail at the bottom. Above the upper eyebrow junction, drifts became deeper and more consistent. Getting higher on the ridge, the packed trail was basically gone and I was breaking through very deep drifts at some points. Amazing views from the outlooks. My favorite is looking west on the ridge before the summit, looking down into mahoosuc notch and over the range. The wind was using its teeth today, I was glad for the tree protection. On the way down, some of my tracks were already filling up. I came upon ski tracks ascending the trail, then descending through the woods to the stream you parallel on the way up. They skied down the waterfalls. Badass!!! A couple snowshoe/ boot tracks very near the bottom that turned around early. Bring your snowshoes if you are trying this one!
Thank you Roots! |
