Date of Hike: Wednesday, March 21, 2012
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Was dropped of at AT entrance on Rt27. Picked up walking back towards Sugarloaf on 27 past Caribou Valley Road. Hypothetically could have parked on side of Rt. 27, there is a jug handle style parking lot/ side cut there next to there. Look for a small brown trail sign nailed to a tree on the North Side of the highway ~100yrds after the brown highway issued AT crossing sign. If you are hoping to approach from Caribou Valley Road, Trailhead is ~4.5mi down the road. The road has mile markers, totally sweet add-on to a an already beautiful logging road.

Trail Maintenance Notes: Tons of water on the trail in between South Crocker and CVRoad. More trail markers would be appreciated.

Comments
Comments: From beginning of trail past Stony Brook Mt. trail was nice, breakable ice, 70 degrees, micro-spikes helped. Past the valley between SB Mountain and North Crocker snow began to pile up in drifts. Only other tracks were recent (scat everywhere) moose tracks with enormous soggy punch holes, and maybe an ancient snowshoe track. Snow did not hold in most places and was knee+ deep, with snowshoes on. Very wet and slow going. Crossed both peaks, and headed towards Caribou Valley Road. One steep pitch was very icy, and had intermittent drifts and rocky patches.

Confusing to hike down. Closer to Caribou Valley Road(CVR) trail was incredibly wet with snow covering run off streams, very wet.

Caribou Valley Road was well kept, crampons were helpful for a small amount, then the road was just 3 inch deep mud/gravel. Was 70 degrees out all day, shirtless for the whole hike, awesome feeling following the moose. GAITERS REQUIRED!
